Adding Signal Policy Macros

Use macros in signal policy actions to insert SOTI MobiControl device or server details into policy actions when conditions trigger.

Before you begin

Log in as a SOTI MobiControl user with the Manage Signal Policies permission enabled. See General Permissions for more information.

About this task

Use macros when creating signal policy actions to automatically obtain device or server information in SOTI MobiControl as a dynamic value.
For example, a signal policy can automatically email device or server data, such as a device ID or the device group path, to the administrator when its conditions are triggered.
Important: Macros are only supported for the Send Email and Trigger Alert actions.

Procedure

  1. From the SOTI MobiControl main menu, select Policies > Signal
Selecting Policies from the SOTI MobiControl main menu
Selecting Signal from the policies menu.
  2. To edit an existing signal policy, select a policy and select (edit). You may also select New Signal Policy to create a new signal policy, see Creating a New Signal Policy for more information.
  3. Navigate to the Actions tab in the Signal Policy wizard.
Select the Actions tab in the signal policy wizard.
Note: When creating a new signal policy, you must first add a name and define its conditions before the Actions tab becomes available. For more details, see Creating a New Signal Policy and Building Signal Policy Conditions.
  4. Select Add Action or (add). You may also edit an existing action by hovering over the action and select (edit).
Select either Add Action or (plus) to create a signal policy action Hovering over an existing action and selecting edit

  7. The selected macro appears in the input field as a macro value, such as %DEVICEID%. Repeat step four by selecting (macro) to add more macros as needed.
    Adding %DEVICEID% as a macro
Tip: Combine macros with text to create custom emails or alerts. For example:
    Device: %DEVICEID% (%MODEL% / %PLATFORM%)
    Group: %DEVICEGROUPPATH%
    Triggered: %TRIGGEREDCONDITIONS%
    Time: %TIMESTAMP%

Results

After adding macros to the signal policy action the policy runs and its conditions trigger, SOTI MobiControl resolves each macro and injects the value into the text field.

What to do next

Optionally, add more actions to the policy (See Adding Signal Policy Actions). Save the policy and verify it by triggering its conditions and confirming the email or alert presents the resolved macros.
