Before you begin
About this task
Selecting devices is essential when using rules, reports, custom attributes,
etc.
Note: Depending on the rule type, you are able to
select devices only, groups and types of devices only, or both.
To select devices in the Devices panel, choose one of the following tabs:
- Devices
- Groups
- Device Types
Refer to the following table when selecting devices.
| Select | When |
|---|---|
| Devices | Only the selected devices are in the scope of the rule. |
| Device Types | All the devices with the selected device types are in the scope of the rule. |
| Device Type and Groups | The devices in the selected groups with the selected device types are in the scope. |
| Devices and Device Types | All the selected devices and all the devices with the selected device types are in the scope. |
| Devices and Device Types and Group | All the selected devices and all the devices in the selected groups with the selected device types are in the scope. |
Note: Specifying a group limits the selection to device types
available for that group.
Note: When using Device Types, you can also optionally specify a
group from the "Groups" drop-down.
