Downgrading Printer Firmware

Use this task to downgrade the firmware version of a device in SOTI Connect.

About this task

Downgrading to an older firmware version may be necessary in specific scenarios. If the downgraded firmware uses an older API type, SOTI Connect does not automatically update to reflect the change. Until the device is rediscovered, properties and actions from the newer firmware may still appear.
Note:
  • To ensure accurate device information, always delete and rediscover the device after performing a downgrade.
  • The delete and rediscover operations is necessary only when the downgrade results in a new API version. In most cases, SOTI Connect automatically manages this behavior.

Reasons for Downgrading

  • Roll back from a faulty or unstable firmware release.
  • Maintain compatibility with legacy systems or software that only support older firmware.
  • Restore device performance or recover features removed in newer firmware versions.
  • Follow OEM guidance when newer firmware introduces known issues.
Downgrading Firmware
Follow these steps in the exact order to complete the downgrade successfully:

Procedure

  1. Downgrade the device firmware to the required version.
Tip: Use the File Store view to push the older firmware. See Pushing a File to a Device for details.
  2. Delete the device from SOTI Connect. See Deleting a Device for details.
  3. Rediscover the device. See Discovering Devices for details.

Results

The device is re-enrolled in SOTI Connect with the correct properties and actions that match the downgraded firmware version.
