Adding a SOTI MobiControl Instance

About this task

You can associate SOTI XSight with multiple SOTI MobiControl instances in addition to the default instance specified during installation. This enables you to add to an incident and remotely control devices managed by any of the associated SOTI MobiControl instances.

Note: The following restrictions apply when using multiple SOTI MobiControl instances with SOTI XSight:

  • The SOTI XSight license must be tied to the default SOTI MobiControl instance.

  • You must define SOTI XSight administrators and technicians with identical usernames and passwords in all associated SOTI MobiControl instances.

  • You must enable the SOTI XSight native login page.

Adding a SOTI MobiControl instance involves:

  • Retrieving data from the SOTI MobiControl database.
  • Updating information in the SOTI MobiControl database to point to SOTI XSight (necessary for creating incidents and remote control sessions).
  • Adding a new client ID and secret to the SOTI MobiControl database.

  • The use of the Add SOTI MobiControl dialog box to add a new SOTI MobiControl instance to SOTI XSight.

Note: The SOTI XSight server must have access to the SOTI MobiControl database.

Configuration Details

You must enter the following settings when adding a SOTI MobiControl instance.

Setting Description
Instance Name Enter a descriptive name for the SOTI MobiControl instance to make it identifiable.
Access URL

Enter the URL of the SOTI MobiControl instance. For example:

https://myinstance.com/mobicontrol/
Use SOTI Identity for user authentication Toggle to use SOTI Identity for use authentication
SOTI MobiControl Database Server

Enter the SOTI MobiControl database server.

Note: The SOTI MobiControl database server must be accessible to the SOTI MobiControl server.
SOTI MobiControl Database Name Enter the SOTI MobiControl database name.
Username Enter the username used to connect to the SOTI MobiControl database using SQL Server authentication.
Password Enter the password used to connect to the SOTI MobiControl database using SQL Server authentication.

The following steps describe how to associate a SOTI MobiControl instance with SOTI XSight.

Procedure

  1. Log into SOTI XSight as an administrator.
  2. On the menu bar, select the main menu button Main menu button and select Settings. The SOTI XSight Settings view opens.
  3. On the left side of the settings view, select Integration. The current integration settings appear on the right side of the view.
  4. If it is not already enabled, select Enable SOTI XSight Login Page. The Domains field and the Other Instances section appear in the view.
  5. In the Domains field, enter the domain or domains you want to use for the SOTI XSight login page. The SOTI XSight login page at any of these domains logs into this instance of SOTI XSight.
  6. Select the add button button in the Other Instances section. The Add SOTI MobiControl dialog box opens.
  7. In the Add SOTI MobiControl dialog box and enter the required information.
  8. Select the Save button. The save process takes a few seconds to perform the updates to the SOTI MobiControl database.
  9. If the SOTI MobiControl server uses a different certificate than the SOTI XSight server, you need to download the SOTI MobiControl root certificate and install it on the SOTI XSight server.
    1. Log into theSOTI MobiControl console as an administrator.
    2. On the All Platforms tab, select the Servers tab.
    3. In the top-left section of the Servers tab, right-click Cloud Link Agents and select Download SOTI MobiControl Root Certificate.
    4. Move the downloaded root certificate file from the SOTI MobiControl server to the SOTI XSight server.
    5. On the SOTI XSight server, install the SOTI MobiControl root certificate. When installing the certificate, ensure that you select Local Machine so it installs for all users, and that you add it to the Trusted Root Certificate directory.
  10. For the changes to take effect, log out, restart the SOTI XSight Management Server and log back into SOTI XSight.

Results

You have associated SOTI XSight with an additional SOTI MobiControl instance.
