Creating a Profile

Use profiles to configure and deploy device settings, software packages, and assets to your managed devices. This task walks you through creating a profile, adding configurations and packages, and preparing it for assignment to target devices.

Before you begin

Make sure that you have Manage Profile Setup permission. See General Permissions for more details.

About this task

Create a profile to configure and manage device settings, software, and assets across your supported platforms. Profiles help you standardize deployments, enforce policies, and streamline device setup.
Create profiles to:
  • Enforce security policies and restrictions.
  • Deliver software and updates.
  • Push certificates and compliance settings.

Procedure

To create a profile:
  1. From the SOTI MobiControl console, select the main menu, then select Profiles to open the Profiles view.
  2. Select Add Profile in the top-right corner and select a platform from the Add Profile dialog box that appears. Hover over each platform icon to see more specific device types.
    • Android: Work Managed, Work Profile, and Corporate Personal
    • Apple: iOS/iPadOS, macOS User, macOS Device, Shared iPad User, and tvOS
    • Windows: Windows Mobile/CE, Classic Desktop, and Windows Modern
    • Linux
    • ChromeOS
Important: You can only create profiles for a single platform at a time.
Note: iOS/iPadOS or Shared iPad User devices only: You can select from Declarative Profile or Reactive Profile.
  3. On the General tab, enter a name and description for the profile.
  4. Select the Configurations tab, then select Add Configuration. A list of all the profiles available for that device type appears.
  5. Select and configure a profile configuration as needed.
For information on specific configurations, see Profile Configurations. For declarative profile configurations for Apple devices, see Profile Configurations (Declarative).
Note: Some profile configurations depend on other configurations being present on the device. For example, you cannot assign a Lockdown profile configuration unless the profile also includes an Authentication profile configuration.
  6. Repeat for other profile configurations you want to add and select Save to continue.
  7. Depending on the platform type you have selected, follow the respective procedure:
    Platform Procedure
    • Android Classic
    • Android Work Managed
    • Android Work Profile
    • Corporate Personal
    • Windows Mobile/CE
    • Classic Desktop
    • Windows Modern
    • Linux
Note: You can create profiles that have only configurations or only packages. You do not need to include both.
    1. Move to the Packages tab and select Add Package.
    2. Add a package to the profile. Choose from:
      • If the package is already uploaded to SOTI MobiControl: Select it from the Packages list, then select Add to Profile.
      • If the package is not uploaded to SOTI MobiControl: Select Add, browse to the location of the .pcg (or .apk for Android) file, then select Upload to add it to the profile.
Make sure you select the correct package version.
    3. Repeat for other packages you want to add to the profile.
Note: Use the arrows to change the order in which packages install.
    4. Optional: If you want the packages installed in a specific order, select Action > Define Package Dependencies beside each package that requires installation of another first.
      1. Select On to set the dependency.
      2. Select Save.
    • iOS / iPadOS Declarative Profile
    • Shared iPad User Declarative Profile
    1. Move to the Assets tab and select Add an Asset.
    2. Select an Assets configuration and adjust it as needed. See Assets (Declarative) for details.
    3. Repeat for other asset configurations you want to add.
    4. Move to the Activations tab and select Activations. See Activations (Declarative) for details.
  8. Select Save and Assign to assign the profile to your devices immediately, or select Save to save the profile and assign it later.
