Using SOTI XTreme Hubs

SOTI XTreme Hub is a tool designed to enhance the performance of file and package distribution in SOTI MobiControl systems. Here's how it works:

  • Efficient File Distribution: Instead of relying solely on the deployment server to send files directly to devices, SOTI XTreme Hub takes over some of these tasks. This reduces the load on the server and speeds up the process, especially when dealing with slow networks or a large number of devices.

  • Relay Functionality: The deployment server sends files and packages to SOTI XTreme Hub, which then relays them to the devices. This minimizes the number of direct file transfers the server has to handle, allowing the deployment server to focus on other tasks.

  • Load Balancing: Multiple SOTI XTreme Hub can be set up to distribute the workload evenly, ensuring smoother operations.

  • Device Compatibility: It supports Android Plus devices and Windows CE/Mobile/Modern devices, making it versatile for different setups.

This setup is particularly useful for organizations managing a large fleet of devices, as it optimizes network performance and reduces server strain (see Using SOTI XTreme Hubs).

How SOTI XTreme Hubs Work

In typical deployments, the deployment server sends all files and packages (defined in file sync policies and profiles) to each device. With SOTI XTreme Hub enabled, the server sends those items to the SOTI XTreme Hubs, distributing them to the appropriate devices. This approach reduces the load on the deployment server and increases overall efficiency.

Note: SOTI MobiControl supports multiple SOTI XTreme Hubs per environment for load balancing.

Typical file distribution

At each check-in, devices request new or updated files from their assigned SOTI XTreme Hub. The SOTI XTreme Hub itself retrieves these files from the deployment server based on:

  • Update schedules set on its device group branch

  • Active file sync policies

  • Profile deployments that include packages

SOTI XTreme Hubs supports two file delivery types:

  • Packages distributed through profiles

  • Files delivered through file sync policies

System Requirements and Device Support

You can set up SOTI XTreme Hubs on Windows desktops or Linux computers enrolled with the SOTI MobiControl Agent. These devices are managed like standard Windows Desktop Classic or Linux devices. However, changes such as disabling or unenrolling a SOTI XTreme Hub can disrupt file routing. They may force devices to request files from another hub or the deployment server.

Supported platforms include:

  • Android Plus devices (Agent 14.1.7 or later)

  • Windows Mobile/CE devices (SOTI MobiControl 15.2.2 or later)

Note: Devices not supporting SOTI XTreme Hub continue receiving files directly from the deployment server.

Licensing Requirements

Note: The SOTI XTreme Hub file transfer feature is available only with Premium Plus Service or Enterprise Plus Service support.

You cannot enroll or use SOTI XTreme Hubs for file distribution if:

  • Your support level dropped below Premium Plus or Enterprise Plus

  • You initially configured SOTI XTreme Hubs using a trial version, and the trial has expired

In these cases, previously configured SOTI XTreme Hub loses file transfer capabilities but remains manageable as standard Windows Desktop Classic or Linux devices.

Tip: To view file transfer status, open the Device Information panel of any target device. For devices acting as SOTI XTreme Hubs, a SOTI XTreme Hub card with additional diagnostics appears on the Device Details tab.
