Disconnection Recovery for SOTI XTreme Hubs
This topic outlines how devices recover from various disconnection scenarios involving SOTI XTreme Hubs. Device behavior depends on the current configuration, the availability of SOTI XTreme Hubs, and the state of the deployment server.
Scenario | Recovery Behavior |
---|---|
A device downloads files from a SOTI XTreme Hub and receives a new download instruction from the deployment server. | The device cancels the current transfer and downloads the new file set as instructed. |
A device loses its connection to the SOTI XTreme Hub while downloading files. | The device resumes the download from where it left off at the next check-in. It does not restart the download. |
A device connects to a SOTI XTreme Hub that has outdated files (in environments with multiple SOTI XTreme Hubs). | The device downloads the outdated files. Once it connects to a hub with the latest files, it updates them automatically. |
The SOTI XTreme Hub is offline and cannot communicate with the deployment server. | Devices continue to attempt reconnection based on their
advanced configuration retry settings. Note: To force devices to use a deployment
server for file distribution, disable or unenroll all
applicable SOTI XTreme Hubs. See Reverting to Deployment Server File Distribution.
|
The SOTI XTreme Hub is disabled | Devices retrieve files, packages, and apps directly from the deployment server. |
All SOTI XTreme Hubs in the same or parent device group are offline. | Following the configured retry attempts, devices retry connections to any available SOTI XTreme Hub within the same or parent group. |
All available SOTI XTreme Hubs are offline for over one hour. | Devices fall back to using the deployment server for file transfers. |
SOTI XTreme Hub configurations are enabled at the platform group level, but no hub device is currently available. | Devices retrieve files from the deployment server. Once a SOTI XTreme Hub becomes available, the device switches to using the hub for file transfers. |
SOTI XTreme Hub configurations are enabled, but the available hub is disabled. | Devices retrieve files directly from the deployment server. |
A SOTI XTreme Hub device moves from device group A (connected to DS1) to device group B (connected to DS2). | DS2 becomes aware of the hub's new location only after polling the database (default is every 10 minutes, but this interval is configurable). |
