Remote Protocol Adapter Update
The Remote Protocol Adapter (PA) Update simplifies management for environments with multiple machines hosting SOTI Connect components. When the Management Server (MS) is updated to a newer version, it automatically triggers updates for Protocol Adapters (PAs) on remote machines.
This feature is available in SOTI Connect 2025.0 and later.
Starting with 2025.0, the Remote PA Update executes automatically for supported
versions.
Important:
- The Remote PA Update is not available when upgrading from SOTI Connect 2024.2 to 2025.0.
- For installations with over 300 PAs, disable rules involving file downloads during the Remote PA Update. These include actions such as firmware downloads or certificate deployment. The update begins automatically after the MS is upgraded. Re-enable these rules once PAs are updated.
- In SOTI Connect versions 2025.0 and 2025.0.1, automatic PA updates may fail in environments with network speed limitations. See Automatic Remote Protocol Adapter (PA) Update Failures for details.
- When using Remote PA Update with an FS cluster that includes FS instances of different versions (for example, 2026 and 2025), the older File Store instances must be stopped.
To use the Remote PA Update feature, make sure the following prerequisites are in
place:
- PAs must be able to connect to the MS.
- The File Store (FS) service must be available before and during the update.
- Use the existing active root certificate when updating the MS. Otherwise, remote PAs will not connect.
MS-to-PA Update Communication
When the MS detects a PA with an outdated version, it sends an update package
containing:
- Archive download link
- SHA256 checksum for integrity validation
- Archive encryption key or password
- Target version number
- Installer configuration file
Failure and Retry Logic
- The MS automatically retries failed PA updates up to three times.
- If a PA still cannot be updated, the manual update action becomes available in the MS UI.
- All automatic and manual update attempts are recorded in Audit Logs for traceability.
Update Lifecycle Management
- During an update, the MS marks the PA as Unavailable, preventing device actions or rule triggers from executing.
- Once the update completes, temporary installer files on the PA are automatically deleted, leaving only log files for reference.
Compatibility Handling
- PAs that are compatible but cannot update remain operational and maintain communication with the MS.
- PAs that are not compatible with the new MS version are automatically disabled until updated.
File Store and Recovery Scenarios
- If a PA is offline, the update occurs automatically once the PA comes online.
- If the FS service is offline, the update fails.
User Experience and Observability
- Live update status (Up to Date, In Progress, Needs Update, or Preparing for Update) is displayed in the System Architecture page.
- Audit Logs record every update action for traceability.
Note: A known UX limitation prevents immediate visual
feedback when the manual update action starts. This affects all actions globally in
SOTI Connect.
To view the PA update status:
- Log in to the SOTI Connect console.
- Navigate to .
- Select System Architecture to view your PAs.
- The Update Status column indicates:
- Up to Date
- In Progress
- Needs Update
- Preparing for Update
Tip: If a PA shows Needs Update, select it
and choose Update Protocol Adapter Version Remotely from the bottom bar. This
action is only available for PAs that are not up to date.
