Deploying the SOTI Surf App to Devices Using Packages

Deploy SOTI Surf to Android devices using a package instead of an app policy to enable installation without relying on an app store distribution.

Before you begin

Restriction: This procedure is only applicable to Android devices. Although SOTI Surfsupports iOS devices, Apple does not distribute .ipa files outside of the Apple App Store. Read Deploying SOTI Surf to Devices Using App Policies for instructions on sending SOTI Surf to iOS devices.

About this task

SOTI recommends using an app policy to deploy SOTI Surf to your devices, so that they receive app updates through the Apple App and Google Play stores. However, if you have security concerns or other reasons, you can deploy SOTI Surf using a package.

To use a package to push the SOTI Surf app to your enrolled devices:

Procedure

  1. Download the SOTI Surf .apk file from the SOTI Downloads page.
  2. Create a package containing the SOTI Surf .apk file. See Using Packages.
  3. Upload the package to SOTI MobiControl.
  4. Create a profile that includes the SOTI Surf package and push the profile to your devices.
    Tip: For simplicity, you can place the SOTI Surf package in the same profile as the SOTI Surf profile configuration.

What to do next

SOTI Surf \installs on the selected devices according to your settings. However, device users cannot use SOTI Surf until they configure the SOTI Surf application settings. See Configuring the SOTI Surf Application.
