Managing Windows Services | Group Device Action

Before you begin

To manage Windows services at the group level, users need the following permissions:
  • General Permission: Configure device/device group.

  • Device Group Permission: Manage services.

About this task

The Manage Windows Services group action enables bulk management of Windows services across all Windows Modern devices within a group.
Important: Users must sync every group at least once for the service data of that group to be visible.
Tip: Always sync before performing service actions to confirm data accuracy. Verify that no third-party services have similar names to avoid unintended changes.

Procedure

  1. Select Manage Windows Services as your group device action. See Performing Group Device Actions.
The Manage Windows Services window appears with the following columns:
    • Name: The user-friendly display name of the service.

    • Service Name: The official Windows service name.

    • Available On: The number of devices that have this service. If more than one instances of a service are running on a device, the count reflects the total number of instances.

  2. Select Sync Services to manually refresh the list and view the latest service data for devices within the group.
Note: Syncing a group does not affect groups higher in the hierarchy. Additionally, if a group with no Windows devices syncs, the Group Last Synced value for higher-level groups remains unchanged.
  3. To manage a service, select (more) next to it to apply one of the following actions to all devices in the group:
Important: Users cannot start disabled services from the SOTI MobiControl web console. Additionally, event logs are not generated for the restart action.
    • Restart: Restarts the service.

    • Start: Starts the service if it is not running.

    • End: Stops the service.
