Creating A Geofence Alert Rule

This alert rule defines actions that happen when a device enters or exits a Geofence.

About this task

To create a Geofence alert rule:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Policies (Rules) tab of Android Plus then Right-click on Alert Rules > Create Geofence Alert rule.
  2. Enter a name for the rule and select Next.
  3. Select "Geofence Event" and select Next.
  4. Select the New button and configure the following subections:

    Fence
    You can select an existing Geofence from the dropdown menu or create a new one.
    Note: Select Start Drawing to draw a new Geofence or select Go to Location and type a street address/location/landmark of the area. Enter the name and select Save.
    Event

    Select either Device enters fence or Device leaves fence.

    Action

    Select an action from the Scripts dropdown list or create a new script using the Scripts button.

    Alert
    Select if you want to generate the alert message. If you choose to generate the alert, select the severity and enter a customized alert message.
    Note: Check Execute alert action even if this alert has been previously raised but not yet closed to receive alerts for more than one event.
  5. Select Next then choose a power policy for the GPS radio: Continuous or Periodic.

    Continuous

    GPS operates all the time. Alerts get generated immediately based on device location and the Geofence co-ordinates.

    Periodic

    GPS operates for 1 minute, every "n" minutes as set in the rule.

    Alerts get generated at this time using device location and Geofence co-ordinates.

  6. Select Next then choose one of the following actions if the alert gets triggered.
    • Send message to the device
    • Relocate devices to
    • Block access to Exchange Active Sync
    • Block access to SOTI Hub
    • Clear cached SOTI Hub content
  7. Select Next then choose if you want an email notification sent when the alert gets triggered.
  8. Verify the details on the Summary page then select Next.
  9. Select Finish.
