Changing the Windows Edition of Windows Modern Devices

About this task

You can change the Windows 10 or later edition on your Windows Modern devices using SOTI MobiControl. See Microsoft Windows 10 or Later Editions for supported upgrade paths.

Important:
  • You must have licenses for the new edition types to complete this procedure.
  • You cannot return your devices to the earlier edition after you have upgraded.

To change the edition of your Windows Modern devices, do the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Select the devices whose editions you want to change and, in the Device Actions menu bar, select More > Update License.
  2. In the Update License dialog box, select a license type from the Type of License dropdown list.
  3. For Windows Desktop, choose Product Key.
    Note: License File is deprecated because it is meant for Windows Phone (Windows 10 or later) or HoloLens devices.
  4. Enter the Product Key.
  5. If you receive a warning about device compatibility, select the warning message at the bottom of the dialog box to see why you cannot change the editions of some of the selected devices.
  6. Select Update License.
