Register Zebra LifeGuard OTA Account

About this task

You need to register a Zebra LifeGuard OTA account for your SOTI MobiControl instance to support over-the-air (OTA) firmware upgrades for Zebra devices. You also need to define a profile configuration and an app policy to enroll the relevant Zebra devices (see Using LifeGuard OTA for Upgrading Firmware on Zebra Devices).
Note: To register a Zebra LifeGuard OTA account for your SOTI MobiControl instance, you must have Zebra account credentials. Contact Zebra if you don't have these credentials.

Minimum requirements for a device to use Zebra LifeGuard OTA are as follows:

  • The device is a Zebra device
  • The device is enrolled as AE
  • The device meets the OS requirements:
    • Android 10: C21 and TC26
    • Android O and P: TC52, TC72, and PS20
    • Android O: TC57, TC77, TC20, TC25, TC83, VC83, MC93, EC30, ET51, ET56, CC600, CC6000, and L10A
    • Android N with LG Update 19 and above, as well as O: TC51, TC56, TC70x, TC75x, VC80x, and MC33
  • Zebra Data Services (ZDS) are enabled on device (ZDS are enabled by default)
  • The device meets the minimum requirements for FOTA

To register the account:

  1. Select Global Settings from the main menu.
  2. From the Settings tree on the left, select Android > Zebra LifeGuard OTA to open the Zebra LifeGuard OTA page (see Zebra LifeGuard OTA).
  3. Click Register.
  4. Click Continue in the confirmation box that appears.
A separate web page opens, prompting you to log into the Zebra LifeGuard OTA portal.
  5. Log into the portal with your Zebra credentials, confirm the activation code displayed, then authorize the permission.
  6. Enroll your Zebra devices into the OTA program - see Enroll Zebra Devices for LifeGuard OTA Firmware Upgrades.
  7. Upon returning to the Zebra LifeGuard OTA console page, wait for the registration to go through (for the account stats to appear on the page). Then observe the stats change as the devices get enrolled.
From this moment on, the information displayed on the page starts updating automatically with a predefined frequency.
  8. Optional: Click Sync to immediately synchronize the device enrollment information displayed on the page with the actual enrollment status (via the Zebra APIs).

The Zebra LifeGuard OTA page reflects the enrollment statuses:
  • Target Devices - Zebra devices targeted for the Zebra LifeGuard OTA enrollment
  • Enrolled Devices - Zebra devices successfully enrolled in Zebra LifeGuard OTA
  • FOTA Ready Devices - Zebra devices that are ready for the firmware upgrade

You can now initiate LifeGuard OTA firmware upgrades on the FORA-ready devices. For details, see Upgrade Firmware on Zebra Devices with LifeGuard OTA.
