Setting Up the Enterprise Resource Gateway

The Enterprise Resource Gateway enables you to control Internet traffic using a proxy server. The proxy server acts as a single point of contact serving client requests. The proxy server authenticates each request based on Client Exchange / Device ID and other parameters and forwards the request to the desired destination server.

The steps involved in handling a request using the Enterprise Resource Gateway can be summarized as follows:

1. A device makes a request to a WebDAV repository using the URL of a proxy server such as SOTIhubProxy.domain.com.

2. The proxy server is controlled by the MobiControl server. Depending on the configuration settings in MobiControl, the proxy server either denies the request or forwards the request to an internal WebDAV server.

Prerequisites

The machine that hosts the Enterprise Resource Gateway must have the following software installed:

• Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 7 or later, with the ASP.NET role service enabled.
• Application Request Routing (ARR) 3.0 installed and configured, using the instructions provided here.
• URL Rewrite Module 2.0 installed. (This is installed as part of ARR.)
• SSL binding for the web site, if communicating with the proxy using HTTPS.
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4 installed, using the instructions provided here.
