Enrolling Zebra Sled RFD-40 & RFD-90

About this task

This task outlines the steps to enroll a Zebra Sled RFD-40 and RFD-90 device.
Important: Note that MQTT communication between SOTI Connect and Zebra Sleds is over the SOTI-SDK-MQTT protocol and not over Zebra-JSON-RPC used for Zebra printers. Make sure that the MQTT server is registered over SOTI-SDK-MQTT before progressing.
  1. Download and install the latest 123RFID Desktop from Zebra RFID Software.
  2. Download certified firmware from Zebra.
  3. Connect Sled to the computer using USB.
  4. Obtain MQTT root certificate and settings for the MQTT server that the sled should connect to (typically uploaded to SOTI Connect File Store).
  5. Launch the 123RFID Desktop Tool.
    1. Find Readers.
    2. Connect to the Sled.
    3. When Sled is on 123RFID Tool, confirm firmware version installed, noting the version required for SOTI Connect under step 2.
    4. If firmware needs to be updated, select Firmware and upgrade Sled.
    5. After the firmware update, set the region and connect to the Sled.
  6. Select the configure/gear icon > Edit Configuration on Reader > General.
  7. Scroll down to NTP Server Settings > Enable > Update NTP server addresses as required > Set.
  8. Select Communication.
  9. Select the Wi-Fi tab, apply Wi-Fi settings and select Connect.
  10. Wait for the Sled's Wi-Fi green icon and then under the Wi-Fi tab, select Get Details and confirm the Status and IP Address.
  11. Select on the End Point tab.
  12. Apply MQTT settings:
    Configuration Name Setting
    Protocol MQTT TLS
    URL Enter applicable MQTT server address.
    Port 8883
    Keep Alive 30 seconds
    Tenant ID Enter applicable Tenant ID if utilized.
    Clean Session Enable
    Reconnect Delay Leave default settings
    Host Verify Host
    Username Enter applicable Role Based Access Control (RBAC) username if utilized. Length cannot exceed 16 characters.
    Password Enter applicable RBAC password if utilized. Length cannot exceed 16 characters.
  13. Select Update.
  14. Wait for confirmation dialog that the settings have applied.
    Note: If the message does not appear, re-apply MQTT settings and select Update.
  15. Select Next.
  16. In Certificate Management configure the following options:
    Configuration Name Setting
    Interface MQTT
    Certificate Type ca_cert
    Select Certificate Upload the .pem certificate downloaded from the File Store and select Install.
  17. Select Next.
  18. Select Save Config > Save to Reader.
  19. Select Reboot.
  20. Return to the SOTI Connect console and check the notification bell for a new device discovery and enrollment.
