Adding External Packages to SOTI MobiControl

Before you begin

Warning: Uploading large (2GB+) packages results in decreased performance for SOTI MobiControl Management Server.

About this task

After creating packages in Package Studio, you can upload them to SOTI MobiControl to send to your devices using a profile.
Restriction: Packages are only available for the following platforms:
  • Android Plus
  • Linux
  • Windows Mobile/CE
  • Windows Classic (Desktop)
  • Windows Modern (Desktop)

Procedure

  1. From the Packages view, select New Package in the upper right corner, then select Import.
  2. Choose your platform from the dropdown.
  3. In the New Package dialog box (see New Package), select Browse File to navigate to a .pcg file or a .apk file (for Android devices).
Important: You can only add one .apk file at a time. SOTI MobiControl uses Package Studio's default settings when adding an .apk file. To use other settings, you must create a package containing the .apk in Package Studio. The package SOTI MobiControl creates for the .apk sources its name and version from the manifest file embedded within the .apk.
  4. Select Upload to upload the package to SOTI MobiControl.
  5. Optional: Repeat for any other .pcg or .apk files you wish to upload.

Results

Your packages are available in SOTI MobiControl and ready for deployment.
Tip: You can add more than one version of the same package. They group under their package name and sort by version number. Additionally, set package dependencies to identify their installation order as required. The dependent packages do not install until their prerequisite package installs.

What to do next

Using a profile, deploy packages to your devices.
Tip: After you have uploaded a package, deployed it to your devices, and the package is no longer needed, consider deleting the package to free up storage space. This is highly recommended for large (2GB+) packages to prevent it from exhausting the available storage.
