Checking the Firmware Password Status on macOS Devices

About this task

macOS devices allow you to set a firmware password that restricts who can start the computer from an internal or external storage device other than the designated startup disk. Use SOTI MobiControl to check if the firmware password is enabled on your macOS devices.

To check if a firmware password is enabled on your macOS devices:

Procedure

  1. In the Devices view, click on a device name to open its Device Information panel.
  2. The Firmware Password Set parameter appears under the Security section.
    Its values may be one of:
    Value Meaning
    Yes A firmware password is set on device.
    No No firmware password is set on device.
    Yes (device reboot required) A firmware password has been configured but the device must be restarted before the password applies.
    No (device reboot required) A previously configured firmware password has been removed but the device must be restarted before the password is disabled.
