Setting the Firmware Password on macOS Devices
About this task
macOS devices allow you to set a firmware password that restricts who can start the computer from an internal or external storage device other than the designated startup disk. You can use SOTI MobiControl to set the firmware password on a macOS device.
Note: Requires macOS 10.13 or later.
To set the firmware password on a macOS device:
Procedure

On the menu bar, click the menu button and select View Devices.
The Devices view opens.

In the left pane, select the device group that contains the macOS for which you want to set the firmware password.
The devices in the selected group appear in the right pane.

In the right pane, do one of the following:
- Click the selection button beside the macOS device for which you want to set the firmware password. The device action bar appears.
- Click the device name of the macOS device for which you want to set the firmware password. The device information panel opens.
- On the device action bar, or in the device information panel, click the More button to open the Device Actions menu.

On the Device Actions menu, select Set Firmware Password.
The Set Firmware Password dialog box opens.

In the Set Firmware Password dialog box, enter the current firmware password (if it has been set on the device), the new password, and the new password confirmation.
If you want to allow execution of option ROMs, select Allow execution of option ROMs.
When you are done, click Set Firmware Password
Results
The new firmware password has now been set on the macOS device.
