Pushing a File Using an Action Rule

About this task

For certain device types you can use an action rule to push a file in the SOTI Connect file store to a device.

To push a file in the file store to an eligible device using an action rule:

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, click the main menu button and select Rules.
    The Rules view opens.
  2. In the Rules view, click New Rule.
    The Add Rule wizard opens.
  3. In the Select Rule Type wizard panel, select Action Rule, then click Next.
  4. In the Select Devices wizard panel, select the device or devices to which you want to push a file, then click Next.
  5. In the Setup wizard panel, in the Action(s) section, click the + button.
    The Add an Action dialog box opens.
  6. In the Add an Action dialog box, select Download File From File Store from the Action list.
    Note: Depending on the device and file type, the action might instead be named Upload File From File Store, Upload Firmware From File Store, or something similar.
  7. Click Select File and select the file you want to push, then select the content type of the file. When you are done, click Add.
    The Add and Action dialog box closes, and the selected file and its content type are shown in the Action(s) section of the Setup wizard panel.
  8. In the Setup wizard panel, enter a name and description for the action rule, and select the date, time, and frequency for the rule to push the file. When you are done, click Finish to complete the Add Rule wizard.

Results

The action rule will now push the selected file to the device or devices at the specified time.
