Adding Android Plus Devices

Use the Android Plus platform to enroll and manage devices running Android 6.0 or later. To enroll a device in SOTI MobiControl, you need to create an Android device policy to define enrollment settings and add a device agent to enable communication with SOTI MobiControl on the device.

All Android devices enrolled into SOTI MobiControl are categorized under Android Plus, which includes two subgroups:
  • Android Classic
  • Android Enterprise
Important: You can configure your SOTI MobiControl console to reflect the types of Android devices your organization plans to manage. Learn more at Choosing an Android Deployment Type.

Android Classic

Android Classic enrollment supports the diversity of Android devices built by different manufacturers. Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can prioritize different features or implementations which leads to a broad range of functionality across devices. Instead of enforcing a one-size fits all model, Android Classic enrollment provides customized feature sets for the different capabilities of different Android manufacturers.

Learn how to enroll your devices as Android Classic at Creating an Android Classic Device Policy.

Android Enterprise

Android Enterprise is a Google-led program that standardizes device management features across all compliant Android devices, regardless of manufacturer. This initiative allows SOTI MobiControl to deliver a consistent, streamlined management experience. Android Enterprise also supports multiple deployment methods to meet varying organizational needs.

Learn how to enroll your devices as Android Enterprise at Creating an Android Enterprise Device Policy. For more information, see Android Enterprise Devices.

Samsung Knox

Important: Samsung Knox 3.4 deprecated Knox Workspace containers. As a result, SOTI MobiControl 15.0, and later no longer supports the creation, modification, or deployment of Samsung Knox containers to devices. If you assigned a Samsung Knox container before upgrading to SOTI MobiControl 15.0 or later, the container remains on the device, but you cannot modify or assign new containers.

Learn how the Samsung Knox Workspace container deprecation may affect you at Samsung Knox Workspace Container Deprecation.

Tip: Consider migrating your Samsung Knox container devices to use Android Enterprise Managed Profiles, which offer similar containerization functionality.

Samsung Knox is a suite of security features available on select Samsung devices. One of these features, Knox Mobile Enrollment, is a bulk enrollment service that lets you provision Samsung devices at scale with minimal user interaction. SOTI MobiControl supports Knox Mobile Enrollment, allowing IT administrators to automate device setup and apply corporate configurations from the first boot. See Using Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment.
