Device Certificates

You can install digital certificates on your devices using MobiControl profiles. You can upload certificates or generate new certificates based on Templates.

To set up certificate templates, refer to the Certificate Authorities page.

Add certificates to your devices using a Profile configuration. See Profiles for more general information on what Profiles are and how to push configurations to your devices. Once you have arrived at the Certificates dialog, use the steps below to install certificates on your devices.

Note

Certificates are not available on the following Platforms: Windows Desktop Classic, Samsung KNOX and Printers.

In the Certificates profile configuration dialog:

  1. Click New to add a new digital certificate.
  2. Click and navigate to the Certificate file on your machine.
  3. Click Open to upload the certificate file to MobiControl.
  4. Enter the password if there is a password associated with the certificate file and then click OK.
  5. Repeat the previous steps to add multiple certificates.
  6. Certificates uploaded to MobiControl appear under Available Certificates. You must move them over to the Selected Certificates section for them to be pushed to your devices when you assign the profile.
  7. Select the certificate(s) you want to assign to your devices and using the arrows, move them over to Selected Certificates.
  8. Click OK to save your Certificates profile configuration.
  9. [On the Android Plus platform only] Add an Authentication profile configuration to the profile with a User Password Policy configured.

    You can assign the Authentication profile configuration to the device in another profile. However, a user password is required when using certificates on Android Plus devices.

  10. Assign the profile to your devices.

Note: Certificates on the Windows Modern platform differ slightly. See Windows Modern Device Certificates for more information.

Note

Some Android device features are not compatible with all MDM versions. Browse the tables available on our Vendor Compatibility Matrix page to determine which features are supported by your MDM version.

Certificate Templates

Templates allow MobiControl to request certificates on behalf of a user or device and install them, allowing for dynamic certificates.

Certificate templates are configured in the Certificates Authorities section of MobiControl, available through the Servers tab. Follow the instructions at Certificate Authorities to add a Certificate Template.

Once you have configured a template, switch to the Templates tab of the Certificates profile configuration dialog to move the configured certificate templates to Selected Templates from Available Templates and then click OK to save the configuration.
