Using NFC Tags for Android Device Authentication in SOTI MobiControl

Use NFC tags to enable password-less authentication on shared devices managed through SOTI MobiControl. SOTI Identity supports assigning NFC tag IDs to users across SOTI Identity, LDAP, and Microsoft Entra ID directories to enhance login efficiency and access control.

Organizations that use Android shared devices often face delays because users must manually enter credentials each time they log in. This approach is inefficient and inconvenient for frontline or field workers. By assigning Near Field Communication (NFC) tag IDs to user accounts, administrators can provide a faster, more secure, and password-less login experience. Users can simply tap an NFC badge to authenticate, saving time and improving operational efficiency.
Note: This feature has the following requirements and limitations:
  • Requires SOTI MobiControl 2026.0.0 and later.
  • Supported only during the pre-authentication step in the Lockdown configuration for Android devices in SOTI MobiControl.
  • Not supported for login through the SOTI Identity Portal.

Administrators can assign NFC tag IDs for different directory types as follows:

  • SOTI Identity: Assign during new user creation, when editing existing users, or bulk uploading via CSV.
  • LDAP Directory: Assign to imported users or use bulk upload.
  • Microsoft Entra ID: Assign to imported users or use bulk upload.
