Adding a Device Inactivity Profile

Add a Device Inactivity profile to manage idle Android Work Managed devices that remain inactive for a specified period.

Before you begin

You must have an Android Work Managed device enrolled.

About this task

Use Device Inactivity profile to automate actions on idle Android Work Managed devices. This configuration helps manage unattended devices and give a consistent user experiences across deployments.

You can configure a Device Inactivity profile:

  • To provide a confirmation message before inactivity actions, allowing users to respond and prevent unintended consequences.
  • To automatically wipe app data or execute scripts after a device remains idle, ensuring the protection of sensitive information.
  • To deliver branded idle screens by playing media or displaying a welcome image during inactivity, and to keep devices engaging and functional, especially in public or customer-facing environments.

  • To streamline device management by automating actions during idle periods, and reduce manual intervention.

Procedure

To create a Device Inactivity profile:

  1. Select Profiles from the main menu. The Profiles window appears.
  2. Select New Profile > Android Work Managed.
  3. Enter a name for the policy, then select the Configurations tab.
  4. Select the Add button, then Email & Others > Device Inactivity. The Device Inactivity panel appears.

  5. In the Device Inactivity Timer field, enter how long the device is idle before showing the inactivity confirmation message.
  6. Enable Device User Confirmation to display a notification message to the user before the device goes into inactive state.
  7. In the Confirmation Timer field, set the length of time you want to display the inactivity message before performing an action.
  8. Enter a confirmation message or use the provided default message.
  9. Select a device-side action to perform:
    • Enable Play Media to:
      • Specify a path to the default media. This media file plays in the absence of scheduled media.
      • Specify a path to a welcome image. The welcome image is the first thing displayed when the device becomes idle
      • Schedule media files to play by selecting the Add button. You can define when and how often you want the file to play and you can add more than one media file.
      Note: Files play in a loop starting from the first one on the list.
      Note: If the scheduled files fail to play, the default media file plays instead.
    • Enable App Cache Wipe–Add an application or bundle to delete the data from. You can choose one of the available apps or import your own.
      Note: Configuring Enable App Cache Wipe does not remove data from any package, application or bundle ID starting with net.soti.xxx.
    • Enable Script Execution–Select Add to set up a new event configuration, specifying the actions to take if a device fails to connect with SOTI MobiControl within the designated time. Choose a script from the dropdown menu to implement the configuration. For more information on creating scripts, see Manage Scripts.

      You can add multiple scripts under a single payload. To delete a script, hover over the script name you want to remove and select the Delete icon that appears.

  10. Select Save and Assign.
