An Application Catalog is a collection of applications that have been curated by administrators and sent down to devices for users to download from a single location on their device. This allows administrators to easily indicate to their users which applications (and which versions) are approved for use on work devices or work profiles. Application catalogs can include general Google Play store applications as well as Enterprise apps, Amazon App Store apps and Google Play for Work Applications.
To create an Application Catalog, you must create an Application Catalog Rule that determines how the Application Catalog targets devices.
Creating an Application Catalog Rule
- On the Android+ platform tab, go to the Rules tab.
- Right-click Application Catalog.
- Click Create Application Catalog Rule.
- Enter a descriptive name for your Application Catalog Rule and click Next.
- Click Add to choose the type of applications from the dropdown.
- There are different configuration options depending on the application type. See the separate sections below for specific steps on setting up the different types of applications.
- Click Advanced to set the application to Mandatory or Suggested and enter a Package Name or Configuration URI.
- Add more applications (of any type) to the Application Catalog Rule.
- When you are satisfied with your selection, click Next.
- Select the device groups that you want this Application Catalog Rule to target and click Next.
- Review the settings for the Application Catalog Rule.
- [Optional]: Click Advanced to create an activation and deactivation schedule or to disable the rule.
- Click Finish.
Adding an Enterprise Application to an Application Catalog Rule
Choose the Enterprise Applications option for any applications that are owned or managed by your organization. You can upload an .apk file or copy a link to the download location of the .apk file.
- Select Enterprise Applications from the Add dropdown.
- Click Browse and navigate to the .apk file location

Enter a URL that points to the download location.
- Once the .apk file is uploaded, the fields fill automatically. If you entered a URL, you must manually enter the information into the fields.
- Click OK.
Adding an Google Play Store Application to an Application Catalog Rule
Choose the Google Play Store Applications option to add an application that is publicly available on the Google Play Store.
- Select Google Play Store Applications from the Add dropdown.
- Type the name of the application in the Search field.
- Select your application from the list suggestions. If the application is not presented as a suggestion, click Search for a longer list.
- After an application is selected, the Application Information fields fill in automatically.
- Click OK.
Adding an Amazon App Store Application to an Application Catalog Rule
Choose the Amazon App Store Application option to add Amazon applications to your Application Catalog rule.
- Select Amazon App Store Application from the Add dropdown.
- Type the name of the application in the Search field.
- Select your application from the list suggestions. If the application is not presented as a suggestion, click Search for a longer list.
- After an application is selected, the Application Information fields fill in automatically.
- Click OK.
Adding a Google Play for Work Applications to an Application Catalog Rule
Choose the Google Play for Work Applications option to add Google for Work applications to your Application Catalog rule. Google for Work applications can only be used for Android for Work enabled devices. See Managing Android for Work Devices for more information.
Note
You must configure Android for Work Enterprise Bindings before you can distribute any Google Play for Work applications. Refer to Configuring Android for Work Enterprise Bindings for more information.
- Select Google Play for Work Applications from the Add dropdown.
- Select a Primary Domain from the dropdown.
Note: If you have not already configured your Android for Work Enterprise Binding click Manage Android for Work Enterprise Bindings in the Primary Domain dropdown.
- Type the name of the application.
- Select your application from the list suggestions. If the application is not presented as a suggestion, click Search for a longer list.
- After an application is selected, the Application Information fields fill automatically.
- Click OK.
Note
You must delete all associated Application Catalog rules before you can unbind Android for Work Enterprise Bindings.
Editing an Application Catalog Rule
- Right-click an Application Catalog Rule and select Edit Rule.
- Select a tab to edit:
- Name
- Application List
- Rule Target
- Summary
- Advanced
- Implement your changes.
- Click OK when finished.
Previewing an Application Catalog Rule
You can see how the application catalog appears on devices.
- Right-click on an application catalog rule and select Preview Rule.
- A pop-up windows appears with a screenshot of a mock device and how the applications appear in the application catalog.
- Close the window.
Deleting an Application Catalog Rule
If you delete an Application Catalog Rule, it removes the rule and uninstalls its associated applications from the targeted devices.
- Right-click an application catalog rule and select Delete Rule.
- Click Yes.
Disabling an Application Catalog Rule
You can disable an Application Catalog Rule. Disabling the rule does not remove the applications from devices, it simply means that the rule no longer targets any new devices. You can re-enable the rule at any time.
- Right-click an application catalog rule and select Disable Rule.
To re-enable the rule, simply right-click the disabled application catalog rule and select Enable Rule.
