An Application Catalog is a collection of applications that have been curated by administrators and sent down to devices for users to download from a single location on their device. This allows administrators to easily indicate to their users which applications (and which versions) are approved for use on work devices. Application catalogs can include general App Store applications as well as enterprise and B2B applications that are not posted to the Apple App Store.

To create an Application Catalog, you must first create an Application Catalog Rule that determines how the Application Catalog targets devices.

Creating an Application Catalog Rule

1. On the iOS platform tab, go to the Rules tab.
2. Right-click Application Catalog.
3. Click Create Application Catalog Rule.
4. Enter a descriptive name for your Application Catalog Rule.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Add to choose the type of applications from the dropdown.
7. There are different configuration options depending on the application type. See the separate sections below for specific steps on setting up the different types of applications.
   • Enterprise Applications
   • App Store Applications
   • VPP B2B Managed Distribution
8. Click Advanced to set the application to Mandatory or Suggested and configure security options.
9. Click Application Configuration to manually configure applications from the App Catalog.
10. Add more applications (of any type) to the Application Catalog Rule.
11. Click Next.
12. Select the device groups that you want this Application Catalog Rule to target.
13. Click Next.
14. Review the settings for the Application Catalog Rule.
15. [Optional] Click Advanced to create an activation and deactivation schedule or to add an image to your Application Catalog Rule.
16. Click Finish.

Adding an Enterprise Application to an Application Catalog Rule

Choose the Enterprise Applications option for any applications that are owned or managed by your organization. You can upload an .ipa file or copy a link to the download location of the .ipa file.

1. Select Enterprise Applications from the Add dropdown.
2. Click Browse and navigate to the .ipa file location

   -OR-

   Enter a URL that points to the download location.

3. Once the .ipa file is uploaded, the fields fill automatically. If you entered a URL, you must manually enter the information into the fields.
4. Click OK.

Adding an App Store Application to an Application Catalog Rule

Choose the App Store Applications option to add an application that is publicly available on the Apple App Store.

1. Select App Store Applications from the Add dropdown.
2. Select or type in your region.
3. Type the name of the application.
4. Select your application from the list suggestions. If the application is not presented as a suggestion, click Search for a longer list.
5. After an application is selected, the Application Information fields fill in automatically.
6. [Optional] If you want to install this application as part of your Apple Volume Purchase Program, see Enabling VPP in an Application Catalog Rule for more information.
7. Click OK.

Adding a VPP B2B Managed Distribution applications to an Application Catalog Rule

Choose the VPP B2B Managed Distribution option to add B2B applications to your Application Catalog rule using Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP) Managed Distribution.

Note

If you do not already have a VPP account configured in MobiControl, see Adding a VPP Account for more information. Make sure you set up your VPP account BEFORE you create an application catalog rule.

1. Select VPP B2B Managed Distribution from the Add dropdown.
2. Select a VPP Account from the dropdown.
3. Type the name of the application.
4. Select your application from the list suggestions. If the application is not presented as a suggestion, click Search for a longer list.
5. After an application is selected, the Application Information fields fill automatically.

Advanced Dialog

The Advanced dialog provides options for further rule configuration. You can:

• Set applications to be mandatory (prompt users to install a set number of times) or suggested
• Upload a provisioning profile
• Update the application bundle ID
• Set specific security options (available for iOS 5 or later)

Application Configuration Dialog

The Application Configuration dialog provides further options for application configuration. Within the dialog you can:

• Allow users to manually configure applications from the application catalog (requires URI configurable app)
• Silently configuration commands

Enabling VPP in an Application Catalog Rule

If you purchased licenses through Apple's Volume Purchase Program, you can distribute those licenses directly in the Application Catalog rule after you set up your VPP account.

1. After the application has been selected and the Application Information fields have been filled.
2. Click Enable Volume Purchase Program.
3. Choose Managed Distribution or Redemption Codes. See VPP App Distribution Methods for more information on the differences between the two.
4. Managed Distribution:
   1. Select the appropriate VPP account from the Accounts dropdown.
   2. Select the Assignment Type.
5. Redemption Codes:
   1. Click Update VPP Codes if you have purchased additional codes.
6. Click OK.

Editing an Application Catalog Rule

1. Right-click an Application Catalog Rule and select Edit Rule.
2. Select a tab to edit:
   • Name
   • Application List
   • Rule Target
   • Summary
   • Advanced
3. Implement your changes.
4. Click OK when finished.

When a new version of an application becomes available, you can edit the application catalog rule to push that updated version down to the applicable devices. A Download button will appear in the application catalog that device users can use to update the application on their devices.

Previewing an Application Catalog Rule

You can see how the application catalog appears on devices.

1. Right-click on an application catalog rule and select Preview Rule.
2. A pop-up windows appears with a screenshot of a mock device and how the applications appear in the application catalog.
3. Close the window.

Deleting an Application Catalog Rule

If you delete an Application Catalog Rule, it removes the rule and uninstalls its associated applications from the targeted devices.

1. Right-click an application catalog rule and select Delete Rule.
2. Click Yes.

Note

Devices display a notification when licenses are removed unless you uncheck Enabling License Removal Notification in the Advanced dialog box which you open from the Manage Apple Volume Purchase Programs dialog box.

Disabling an Application Catalog Rule

You can disable an Application Catalog Rule. Disabling the rule does not remove the applications from devices, it simply means that the rule no longer targets any new devices. You can re-enable the rule at any time.

1. Right-click an application catalog rule and select Disable Rule.

To re-enable the rule, simply right-click the disabled application catalog rule and select Enable Rule.
